Welcome back!

We hope you had a rewarding experience abroad and we want to acknowledge that readjusting to life at home and at Yale can be bittersweet. You may experience a full and fluid spectrum of emotions, such as elation to reunite with loved ones, difficulty getting back into a routine, and disappointment to be away from the people and places you got to know abroad. Yale Study Abroad is here to support you as you navigate your return from study abroad.

Get Your Credits Transferred

If you have not already done so, request that your program send an official transcript directly to Yale Study Abroad. Electronic or hardcopy transcripts will be accepted. Please note that we cannot accept transcripts that are delivered to our office by students.

Official electronic transcripts should be sent to: studyabroadtranscripts@yale.edu

Official hardcopy transcripts should be sent to:

Kelly McLaughlin
Director of Study Abroad
Yale University
55 Whitney Ave, 3rd Floor
New Haven, CT 06510
U.S.A.

When our office receives your study abroad program transcript, we will process your transcript and upload an unofficial copy to your MyCIPE account. The Registrar's Office will complete the final posting of your study abroad courses and credits. Once transfer credit for study abroad has been added to your Yale College transcript, it cannot be removed. As a reminder, your study abroad grades will not appear on your Yale transcript.

For more detailed information about credit transfer, visit Academics & Credit.

Fulfill Major or Distributional Requirements

After your study abroad courses and credits appear on your Yale transcript, if desired, you can request approval from the relevant department to use study abroad courses to fulfill major and/or distributional requirements.

Complete Your End of Program Report

Once your study abroad program has ended, be sure to complete your required program report in your MyCIPE account.

Program reports serve three key purposes:

  1. To offer you an initial point of reflection for your time abroad.
  2. To provide Yale Study Abroad with student feedback that will be used in our advising and program assessment processes.
  3. To share peer perspectives and advice with other Yalies.

Please log into MyCIPE to see the deadline for your Program Report.

Note:If you have a matter you would like to discuss with Yale Study Abroad, email or schedule an appointment with your study abroad adviser.

Attend a Welcome Back Event

Yale Study Abroad hosts a Welcome Back Event at the start of each semester for students who are returning from a Year or Term Abroad. Details will be sent directly to returning students. We hope you will join us!
