Before You Go Abroad

Congratulations, you'll be studying abroad soon! Use this section to review the requirements that you need to complete before you leave campus, as well as information that will help you get ready for your experience. In addition, you should be receiving program specific information directly from your program or university.

Tip: While it might be tempting to work remotely during your study abroad program, we'd like you to focus solely on your study abroad program. Remote work may not be permitted under your visa type and you may be in violation of employment laws. There might also be tax implications that you are not aware of.

Pre-Departure Checklist

Review the Pre-Departure requirements below.

FAQ: 1. Submit All Required Pre-Departure Forms in MyCIPE by the Due Date

Log into your MyCIPE profile to complete your pre-departure forms. Required forms are due:

  • May 1 for fall and academic year abroad programs
  • December 1 for spring abroad programs

FAQ: 2. Attend a Required Pre-Departure Meeting

This meeting brings together students who have been approved to study abroad. We will go over important information to help you prepare for your time abroad. You will receive an email with details about this event, including the date, time, and location.

Visit our Costs & Funding page to learn more about budgeting for your Year or Term abroad. If you receive Yale financial aid and haven't already submitted your program budget to Yale Student Financial Services, please contact Nicole Rothfuss.
