Note: This is a two-part process. You must apply for both admission into your program and Yale approval to study abroad. These are separate application processes and can be done simultaneously.
Apply for admission to your intended Non-Yale Summer Abroad program:
It is your responsibility to ensure all application materials are submitted to your desired program by their deadline. Program application deadlines may be earlier or later than Yale’s application deadline.
You do not need to have already secured Yale's approval for study abroad when you apply for admission to your intended program.
If you need to request a transcript for your program's application, check with the program if you need an official transcript or an unofficial transcript. You can request an official transcript (for a fee) from the University Registrar's website or you can get an unofficial course history from Yale's Degree Audit system.
If you need a form filled out by a Yale Study Abroad adviser, contact the Yale study abroad adviser for that program. To view a list of advisers and their regions go to the Meet with a Study Abroad Adviser page. You can email the form to the adviser.
Apply for Yale's approval to study abroad and transfer credit:
Access and submit the Non-Yale Summer Abroad application via the button at the bottom of this page.
Late applications cannot be accepted.
You do not need to have already been admitted to your intended program before submitting the Non-Yale Summer Abroad application.
Note: Application Exceptions:
If you would like to apply for approval to attend a program that is not on Yale's desginated list, please see our guidance on petitions.
What does the Non-Yale Summer Abroad application include?
The Non-Yale Summer Abroad application is a non-competitive process. Applications are reviewed for eligibility with no cap on the number of students who can be approved. The Non-Yale Summer Abroad application consists of:
Application Form: This form includes questions about your intended study abroad program(s) and tentative courses along with a brief personal statement (300-500 words). In addition to listing your first-choice program, you have the option to include 1 alternate program from our designated list.
Academic Record Upload: You'll be asked to upload a copy of your current "course history" from Yale's Degree Audit system. Instructions are provided in the application.
Credit and Policy Documents: These documents include details about important Yale Study Abroad policies. You will be asked to read through the information and confirm your understanding of the policies.
What if the program I want to attend is not on Yale's designated list?
If you are hoping to attend a program that is not found on Yale's designated list, do not submit the Non-Yale Summer Abroad application. Instead, you should review the petition process and submit a Non-Yale Summer Abroad Petition for a Program not on Yale's Designated List.
