Description
Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) is a branch campus of Temple University offering the opportunity to study abroad for a semester, summer or the full academic year alongside degree-seeking Japanese, U.S., and international students from about 60 countries around the world. With such a diverse student body, you can expect a dynamic exchange of perspectives on current global issues, international relations, and aspects of traditional and popular culture. Outside of the classroom, you can take advantage of a full schedule of activities, events and workshops that expose you to new locations and various aspects of life in Tokyo and throughout Japan.
Two-Part Application Process
Applying to a Year or Term Abroad or a Non-Yale Summer Abroad study abroad program is a two-part process. These are separate application processes with individual deadlines and can be done simultaneously.
- You must apply to your intended program for admission by applying online from the program’s website. Select the Program Website button below to be directed to more information.
- You must apply to Yale Study Abroad for approval to study abroad and the ability to transfer the credit back to your Yale degree. The designated list of programs on our website does not constitute pre-approval or automatic approval from Yale. You must apply to our office by the relevant deadline in order to be approved. Online Courses
Yale students cannot transfer credit for online courses taken abroad.
Petition Options with Temple University Japan (Tokyo and Kyoto)
- Students can petition for a summer on the Temple University in Japan (TUJ) Tokyo program.
- Students can petition for a semester (spring only) or petition for a summer on the Temple University in Japan (TUJ) Kyoto architecture program. This program is designed for students majoring in architecture and urban studies. In addition to a design studio and architecture seminar, you would be required to enroll in a Japanese language course and at least one elective.
- Students can petition for a semester (spring only) or petition for a summer on the Temple University in Japan (TUJ) Kyoto program. Courses are offered in a variety of subjects and Yale students are required to take Japanese as one of their courses.
