Kelly McLaughlin

Director, Study Abroad; Deputy Director of the Center for International and Professional Experience; Assistant Dean for Assessment

Kelly McLaughlin advises students who are interested in studying abroad in France and Asia (except Light Fellowship sites). He serves as Director of Study Abroad and Deputy Director of the Center for International and Professional Experience (CIPE). He is also the Assistant Dean for Assessment in Yale College, coordinating Yale College's portion of reaccreditation reports to the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).

Kelly joined Yale's CIPE in 2002 and has previously held the positions of Director of Fellowship Programs and Director of the Light Fellowship. Prior to Yale, he worked in South Korea's Higher Education sector for five years, culminating in a stint in the Fulbright Commission in Seoul. He received both an M.A. and a B.A. in English Literature from UCLA. Kelly still considers sunny Southern California his home base.


Allie Agati

Associate Director, Study Abroad

Allie Agati advises students who are interested in studying abroad in Spain, Portugal, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Middle East and North Africa. She also advises on IHP multi-country, comparative programs.

Allie joined Yale Study Abroad in 2017. She previously held positions as Manager of Curricular Programs in the Office of the Dean of the College at Brown University, Assistant Dean of International Studies and Study Abroad Advisor at Providence College, and Study Abroad Coordinator at Northeastern University. She received an M.A. in Intercultural Relations from Lesley University and a B.A. in English from Providence College. As an undergraduate, Allie spent a semester abroad in Sydney, Australia.

Susan Evans

Associate Director, Study Abroad

Susan Evans advises students who are interested in studying abroad in Oceania, Sub-Saharan Africa, and twelve European countries (see the full list on her appointment page). In addition to her study abroad responsibilities, Susan serves as a College Adviser to first-year undergraduate students in Berkeley College.

Susan joined Yale Study Abroad in 2006 and has previously held the positions of Assistant Director and Study Abroad Adviser. She received an M.A. in International Education through the SIT Graduate Institute and a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Colorado at Boulder. As an undergraduate, Susan spent one semester abroad in Indonesia and another semester in Independent Samoa.

Kathy Trputec

Associate Director, Summer Session & Study Abroad

Kathy advises students who are interested in studying abroad in seven European countries (see the full list on her appointment page). She also advises on the International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU) Courses. In addition to her study abroad responsibilities, Kathy serves as a College Adviser to first-year undergraduate students in Trumbull College.

Kathy joined Yale Summer Session in 2007 and has previously held the positions of Assistant Director and Study Abroad Coordinator for Faculty-Led Programs Abroad. Prior to Yale, she worked as a middle school Spanish teacher and a college academic advisor. She received an M.S. in Counseling with a specialization in Student Development in Higher Education from Central Connecticut State University and a B.A. in Spanish from the University of Connecticut. As an undergraduate, Kathy spent a year abroad in Granada, Spain.

Megan Carney

Program Coordinator, Summer Session Programs Abroad

Megan Carney works closely with the Director to manage logistics related to Yale Summer Session Programs Abroad.

Megan joined Yale Study Abroad/Yale Summer Session in 2010 after beginning her career at Yale in the Cowles Foundation for Research and Economics in 2008. Prior to Yale, Megan served two and a half years on board a Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) ship as an administrative hostess on the cruise director's staff. She received an M.S. in Counseling with a specialization in Student Development in Higher Education from Central Connecticut State University and a B.S. in Marketing Communications from Roger William's University. As an undergraduate, Megan spent a semester abroad at the University of Wollongong in Australia.

Ruth Clifford

Senior Administrative Assistant, Study Abroad & Fellowships

Ruth works closely with advisers to facilitate study abroad through our Year or Term Abroad and Non-Yale Summer Abroad programs.

Ruth joined Yale Study Abroad in 2017. Prior to her arrival in the United States, she worked as a primary school teacher at St. Michael's N.S. in Dublin and St. Canice's N.S. in Kilkenny, Ireland. She received an M.A. in Human Services from Albertus Magnus College, New Haven, and a B.A. in Education from Trinity College, Dublin. Although Ruth has never studied “abroad,” she has earned degrees on both sides of the Atlantic.

Shamsa Derrick (GH '20)

Student Outreach Coordinator - Events

Shamsa is a senior Political Science and ER&M double major from New York City. At Yale she has studied Portuguese and Spanish and is interested in refugee and immigration policy. Shamsa also works as a college aide and has been involved with the Yale Black Women's Coalition, Fair Haven Tutoring, Danceworks, and the Yale Refugee Project. After studying abroad in both Switzerland and Brazil she is extremely excited to join this team! Her experiences in Geneva and Rio de Janeiro were unforgettable parts of her personal and academic journey. "Having the chance to live and study in another country is an opportunity you absolutely shouldn'’'t give up! I couldn't have made a better choice for my junior spring semester."

Stephanie Fernandez (BF '20)

Student Outreach Coordinator - Events

Stephanie Fernandez is a senior majoring in Political Science. On campus, she’s worked with the Yale Black Women's Coalition, the Yale Admission's office, and Sabrosura: Yale's Latin dance team. She spent a summer studying film in Prague and a semester studying comparative development in Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, and Paraguay. "Studying abroad allows us to critically re-examine our identities in different contexts. I think it’s been essential to my personal and professional development."

Andre Faria (JE '21)

Student Outreach Coordinator - Social Media

Andre is a sophomore from Eastern Kentucky. He studies psychology and has been involved in Splash@Yale, the annual German theater production, and the Community Health Educators. He has studied abroad in Germany, participating in a Yale Summer Session in 2018 in Jena and Berlin. Then, in spring 2019, he studied in London at University College London. Additionally, in summer 2019, Andre returned to Germany, studying German in Konstanz. "During my time at Yale, no experience has been more valuable than studying abroad. While it can be frightening to leave Yale for a different environment, I believe that going abroad has helped me mature and grow immensely. I look forward to encouraging other Yalies to study abroad—hoping they, too, embark on this amazing opportunity!"
