DIS Copenhagen offers an academically challenging study abroad program with more than 200 elective courses taught in English. Students participate in course-integrated study tours and have a range of cultural immersion, research, and housing options.

Admission to DIS Copenhagen is rolling and available spaces normally fill well before the stated deadlines. We recommend applying early.

Credit Transfer

A full course load at DIS Copenhagen is 15 DIS credits (which often means taking 5 DIS classes).  Yale requires students to take a Danish Language and Culture class while abroad.

Most DIS courses are eligible for general Yale graduation credit. However, we cannot transfer credit for courses offered by an academic department that does not exist at the undergraduate level at Yale. Courses in the following departments at DIS are likely to not be eligible:

  • Advertising
  • Business
  • Communication
  • Criminal Justice
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Fashion
  • Journalism
  • Kinesiology
  • Interior Design
  • Landscape Architecture
  • Leadership Studies
  • Legal Studies
  • Management
  • Marketing
  • Organizational Behavior
  • Social Entrepreneurship

If you are interested in a taking a course in one of the departments referenced above, you must contact a relevant DUS and seek approval for general transfer credit for the course. Approval is not guaranteed. If you receive approval from a DUS, please forward the email from the DUS to Yale Study Abroad.

To learn more about credit transfer, please visit our Academics page.

Two-Part Application Process

Applying to a Year or Term Abroad or a Non-Yale Summer Abroad study abroad program is a two-part process. These are separate application processes with individual deadlines and can be done simultaneously.

  1. You must apply to your intended program for admission by applying online from the program’s website. Select the Program Website button below to be directed to more information.
  2. You must apply to Yale Study Abroad for approval to study abroad and the ability to transfer the credit back to your Yale degree. The designated list of programs on our website does not constitute pre-approval or automatic approval from Yale. You must apply to our office by the relevant deadline in order to be approved. Select the Apply to Yale Study Abroad button below to be directed to more information.
