While Abroad

The academic culture on your study abroad program may be quite different from what you experience here at Yale. Depending on the location and program you choose, you might conduct hands-on research in a non-traditional classroom environment. Or you might directly enroll in a foreign university where you will be required to be more self-directed in your learning and where you will be assessed less frequently. Many study abroad programs also include site visits within the host-country to build upon your discussions in the classroom.

Regardless of the program you choose, study abroad affords you the opportunity to engage in different ways of learning – both in and out of the classroom. Part of the intellectual experience is being open to this new learning environment, which may not directly compare to the academic culture at Yale.
