Abou​t the Yale Study Abroad Office

The Study Abroad Office facilitates various study abroad opportunities for Yale College students, including Yale Summer Session Programs Abroad, Designated (non-Yale) Programs and the Global Summer Program. We also work closely with our colleagues that run Yale in London.

Kelly McLaughlin

Director, Study Abroad
Deputy Director of the Center for International and Professional Experience
Assistant Dean for Assessment

Kelly advises students on programs in:

  • Asia
  • France
  • Northern Africa and the Middle East
As Director of Study Abroad, and with oversight of Yale Summer Session Programs Abroad, Kelly focuses on promoting and documenting students’ experiential learning outcomes. This work has been informed by his tenure both as Chair of the Outcomes Assessment and Research Committee and as Chair of the Council for the Forum on Education Abroad, which is recognized as the Standards Development Organization (SDO) for the field of education abroad. As Assistant Dean for Assessment, Kelly is also responsible for coordinating Yale University’s accreditation reports to the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). Kelly joined Yale’s Fellowship Programs in 2002, overseeing the advising, funding, and assessment of student experiences around the world and domestically. He received B.A. and M.A. degrees from UCLA in English Literature before working in South Korea’s Higher Education sector for five years, culminating with a position at the Fulbright Commission in Seoul.

Megan Carney

Senior Administrative Assistant, Study Abroad

Megan Carney is the Sr. Administrative Assistant for the Study Abroad office. She works closely with the Director to manage logistics related to Yale Summer Session Programs Abroad. Before coming to Yale, Megan served two years as a member of the director’s staff on a cruise ship. As an undergraduate she studied abroad for a semester in Australia at the University of Wollongong; Megan received a master’s from Central Connecticut State University.

Ruth Clifford

Study Abroad Adviser (Spring 2017 semester only)

Ruth advises students on:

  • Summer programs in the UK
Ruth will be assisting the study abroad office during the Spring 2017 semester. She graduated from Albertus Magnus College with an M.S. in Human Services and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Trinity College, Ireland. She brings to Yale almost 20 years of educational, managerial, interpersonal, and leadership skills. Originally from Kilkenny, Ireland, a love of travel brought her to New Haven more than ten years ago and she now considers Connecticut her home.

Susan Evans

Associate Director, Study Abroad

Susan advises students on programs in:

  • Europe (except France and the United Kingdom)
  • Latin America and the Caribbean
  • Oceania
  • Sub-Saharan Africa
Susan has worked in the study abroad office at Yale since 2006 and advises students on all undergraduate study abroad options. She has held the positions of Study Abroad Adviser, Assistant Director and, most recently, Associate Director of Study Abroad. Susan received her M.A. in International Education through the SIT Graduate Institute and her B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Colorado at Boulder. As an undergraduate, Susan spent a semester abroad in both Indonesia and Independent Samoa.

Kathy Trputec

Associate Director, Summer Session & Study Abroad

Kathy advises students on:

Kathy has worked for Yale Summer Session since 2007. She advises students on the International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU) Global Summer Program and term time and summer programs in the UK. She provides guidance and support to students before, during and after the application process. Kathy received her M.S. in Counseling with a focus in Student Development in Higher Education from Central Connecticut State University. As an undergraduate, she spent a year abroad in Granada, Spain.

Yale in London

 

Jean DelBuono

Senior Administrative Assistant, Yale Center for British Art

Jean serves as the initial contact person for students interested in the Yale in London program. She also provides administrative support for students during their enrollment process.

Lisa Ford

Assistant Director of Research, Yale Center for British Art

Lisa L. Ford is Assistant Director of Research at the Yale Center for British Art. Dr. Ford oversees the Yale in London program at Yale and advises students interested in the program. She has taught a seminar course on Queenship from the Tudors to the Modern Age for the summer program.
